Q. How do I apply for Medicaid?

Q. How long will it be before I hear back from Mediaid about my application?
A. The Medicaid office will mail you a letter in 7-10 business days notifying you that they have received your application, and are in the process of determining your eligibility.
Q. How long does it take for me to know whether or not I am eligible for Medicaid?
A. Medicaid makes their determination within 45 days.
Q. Can I apply for Medicaid even though I have health insurance?
A. Yes, you can.
Q. I don't think I can apply because I think our income is too high. Is there a maximum income level?
A. Anyone can apply. Determinations are based on income and how many people live in the household.
Q. My child just turned one year old and their Medicaid has stopped. What do I need to do?
A. Medicaid will automatically stop at the child's first birthday. You will not receive notification from Medicaid, and you need to reapply.
Q. Are Medicaid and Medicare the same program?

Q. Whom do I call to get additional sercices or funding for services?
A. The Arc Caddo-Bossier will help families apply for Medicaid services. Once families have applied for Medicaid, The Arc Caddo-Bossier refers families to the Office for Citizens with Disabilities (OCDD), a state agency that oversees the state and federal programs for people with developmental disabilities.
